About us

Brighton Baptist Church was founded in 1915 and renamed as The Lighthouse Community Church in 1998. It is still a Baptist Church and a member of the Baptist Churches of South Australia (formerly the Baptist Union).

Our Principles:

  • The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Scriptures in matters of faith and conduct.

  • The deity and Lordship of Jesus Christ.

  • A regenerate Church membership.

  • The priesthood of believers.

  • The ordinances of believers’ baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

  • The vesting of authority for Church policy and management with the Church members.

  • Freedom of conscience.

  • All members are ministers and ministry belongs to the whole Church.

  • Leadership in ministry is manifested through a plurality of leaders rather than a senior figure.

Our Aims:

  • To proclaim the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ leading those who repent and believe in Him for salvation into membership in the Church.

  • To proclaim the sole Lordship of Jesus Christ in the lives of Christians and to seek to fulfil His purpose in the life of the Church and the world beyond.

  • To prayerfully seek to discern the will of God for all aspects of the life of the Church and to be obedient to His leading.

  • To instruct people of all ages in the Scriptures and its implications for daily living.

  • To encourage people to assemble in regular worship of God.

  • To support the work of the wider fellowship of Baptists through the Baptist Churches of South Australia (BCSA) and to co-operate with other Christian bodies as may be determined by the Church.

  • To work for justice and care with compassion for widows, the fatherless, the needy and the oppressed.

Our Values:

  • WORD OF GOD… we seek to teach the Bible in a simple, understandable and relevant way, so that it can be applied to everyday life. We hold the Word of God (the Bible) as having authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (Hebrews 4:12)

  • GRACE... permeating all we do. We cherish the grace (God’s gift of love and life) so freely given by God to every person who turns and puts their trust (faith) in Jesus Christ. We see ourselves as ‘agents-of-grace’. (Matthew 10:7,8)

  • PRAYER… we believe prayer is vital if we are to grow to maturity in our relationship with God and be effective in serving Him and making a difference in this world. Our activities will be ‘birthed-in’, under-girded by, and varied through our commitment to prayer.

  • CELEBRATION & WORSHIP… we highly value times we come together as a faith-community, to praise and worship God. We expect to ‘encounter’ God. We seek to be relevant, relaxed and culturally sensitive. Our desire is to be creative, innovative and open to change and we sense the Spirit leading us. (Luke 5:37,38)

  • MISSION… we believe that every Christian is called by God to be active in the mission of His church, living and sharing the Good News about Jesus – to be ‘salt’ and ‘light’ and ‘ambassadors of reconciliation’, and that through friendships, service, and participation in the life of the community we will see people enter into a life-changing relationship with Jesus. (2 Corinthians 5:19,20; Matthew 28:19,20; Acts 1:8)

  • A ‘KINGDOM’ COMMUNITY… we seek the empowering activity of the Spirit of God in all we do. As members of the supernatural Kingdom of God we expect to see God’s power and presence at work in us and through us, making an impact in the world. Our ministries will be significantly shaped by the gifting of our people. (Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 12:11)

  • DISCIPLESHIP & EQUIPPING… we aim to grow personally in our relationship with God. In order to see maturity taking place, we highly value teaching, nurturing and training. We see discipleship as the on-going process of spiritual formation and personal growth. Being equipped and seeing people released into fruitful service is a high priority to us. (Ephesians 4:13, James 1:4,Romans 8:29)

  • CARING RELATIONSHIPS… we highly value every individual and seek to ‘walk-with’ and support one another through the joys and the difficult times that are a part of life. We believe that every person has a role to play in caring for each other. We aim to work together to build the church through maintaining mutual respect, open communication, determined co-operation and believing and speaking the best about each other. We believe the small group setting is an avenue where relationships can grow through caring and supporting one another, learning together, building friendships, development and exercise of God-given gifts, prayer and reaching out to others. We believe that healthy relationships take root in the soil of intimacy, accountability and commitment to each other.

  • FINANCES & GIVING… we value the Biblical principle of giving to God of the ‘first-fruits’ of what He has given to us. We believe consistent and faithful giving to the mission and ministries of the Lighthouse fellowship are a normal and integral part of our relationship with God. ‘…for God loves a cheerful giver’ (2 Corinthians 9:7)
